Set it and forget it...
Matt Gardiner is a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon who, while on winter break, is helping out as the assistant director during rehearsal. He volunteered to write the latest entry sharing his thoughts regarding Nevermore.
Today we’re having a potluck lunch with the cast and staff — so much good food!
Here’s what Matt has to say.

The quote of the day came from Chan who said, "Set it and forget it… like a rotisserie chicken." Meaning the entire show is blocked… well at least a rough plan has been laid out. Of course, the show isn't complete and there are certain to be many changes before the opening. We’re now entering what I think is the most exciting part of the rehearsal process. It’s time to really dig in and figure out how to make the show work moment to moment. As we rehearse we’ll discover more about Poe's poetic world and the piece will continue to grow.
What’s been so exciting is watching the passion for the piece build in the rehearsal room. Everyone has become so devoted to the show and the characters. Even when we’re on a break we find ourselves still talking about it. The actors are able to set aside their characters and in the end discuss what will be best for the piece. Matt, Grace, and Eric have been open to everyone's input. This openness has helped to clarify the show and every day layers are uncovered, creating what I believe will be a highly intriguing piece of theater.
