No need for the gym!
MY FAIR LADY Day 14
September 13, 2006
Today was a great day in both rehearsal rooms. Karma was in a dance studio across the street all day with a lot of folks staging “Get Me to the Church” and I was in our rehearsal room finishing scenes in act two. All we did was run back and forth to check-in on each other. We got plenty of exercise running around, so had a good excuse to skip a trip to the gym! Everything with the show seems to be gaining steam and is all heading in the right direction. Today in rehearsal I was just appreciating the language of the show — the script and score are so beautifully written. It rarely happens when you’re actually working on scenes, but there was a particular moment in the show that we were focusing on yesterday that’s so emotional, I actually got all choked up. Andrew and Sally have such terrific chemistry and they bring such magic to their roles. In the middle of the night I had a new idea for the ball scene, so we’re reworking that on Friday. I feel a lot better with where we are at this point. Time’s still tight, but at least now I know we’ll ultimately win the race! Tech starts on Sunday so we're just trying to get the show in the best shape we can before then. I know once we move into the theater this weekend we’ll have to restage and space a number of things as we can only fit about a third of the actual set space into the rehearsal room (a problem we won't have in the new building, thank goodness!) It takes a lot of imagination on our part in making sure we can “see” the finished product in our cramped quarters as we ultimately want it to look on the stage.
