REAL LIFE OR PLAY LIFE?

Today, we started getting into the really “messy” part of the show. In it, there are long, passionate conversations coming from each character on what they believe or what they think of the other person. It gets deep, emotional, and even ugly at times - but all in a good way. Very revealing. Today Mikey, our young actor who plays Frank Jr. said "are they talking about real life or the play life?" This show really will hit home with everyone.

We ran one transition today that we're totally redoing. Once we saw it, we instantly said, “Wrong direction!” I think this may be the hardest Sondheim musical that I have directed. The show is complicated and layered. Getting it right takes time and creative energy. It's thrilling, but, by the end of the day, everyone is exhausted mentally and physically. We’ll be ready for a day off on Monday for sure.
