123-1-1-2-123-12345 and 1

Things continue to go well in the Studio rehearsal room. Changes are being made to the script daily.

I’m not sure that this piece could ever be done without Christopher d’Amboise’s choreography. It is such a major part of the storytelling, and literally written into the script. With every new piece of choreography come new pages for the script.

Another major element of the piece is the drawings that Stephen Lee Anderson (Emil) will have to do on the back wall of the theater every night. Throughout the show the choreographer, Emil, maps out the music and notates the choreography. As Christopher works with the dancer during rehearsal, Stephen sits on the side sketching out the dancers movements on his notepad or on large sheets of paper tacked up on the back wall. He has to practice. During the show, Emil writes his choreography on the wall as the dancers bring the drawings to life — it requires amazing precision from Emil who has to draw the dance, the dancers who have to bring the drawings to life, and our stage manager Kerry Epstein who has make sure all the sound cues and dance steps sink up. It’s a huge puzzle or math problem. But once it’s solved — it’s very exciting. I’ll try to take a picture of the notation and post it here on the blog so you can see what I’m talking about. It’s pretty cool stuff.
