TECH, TECH ,AND MORE TECH

Yesterday, we finished teching the entire show! Now we have time to do some additional scene work in the afternoons before running the show in the evenings. We'll do three dress runs before the first preview next Tuesday. So we are in great shape!

Just so you know what we’re working on it tech….

Lighting designer Chris Lee starts the show in a colorful, bold look, evoking the city of Los Angeles. But as the characters get younger and MERRILY moves backwards in time, the color palette becomes muted until it is simply white.

The orchestra rehearsals continue to go well. The band is rocking. I’m thrilled to have the full orchestra and orchestrations, not a cut-down version like others do. I am a firm believer that if you do a musical, then you better make it sing — both with the actors and musicians. It is so important to give audiences a full musical experience. Something we always do here at Signature.

And Will Gartshore is doing a great job with Franklin —singing, acting, and playing the piano! We've even added some extra moments of his playing because it works so well.

All of these little touches that we’ve inserted make the show different and unique. You’ve got to see it to believe it.
